Rhinoplasty

Isolated plastic surgery of the wings and tip of the nose is performed quite rarely.As a rule, it is included in the complex of rhinoplasty work.But in some cases, enhanced wings are the missing touch that can instantly change the overall look for the better.

Parameters of the beautiful wings of the nose

The wings of the nose are paired, symmetrically arranged cartilages that form the nostrils.

The main parameters of harmoniously formed nose wings can be called symmetry and proportionality.When talking about the aesthetics of the olfactory organ, people often mean the flat back, neat tip, and moderate projection (length) of the nose.The wings of the nose, since they occupy a small area, attract less attention.

The aesthetic configuration of the wings is very important!I can assume that a non-specialist in the field of facial aesthetics is not always able to identify where the “ugliness” of the nose is located.At first glance it's not all bad, but a few elements stand out from the well-crafted design.Ugly wings are a touch that can destroy the entire harmony conceived by nature.

They must be symmetrical and proportional to the entire external part of the respiratory organ!

In which cases is surgery necessary?

Correction of the wings of the nose can be an isolated operation, that is, performed only on paired cartilages, or part of a complex for the correction of the nose and septum - rhinoseptoplasty.

We highlight the 3 most common wing defects that can be surgically corrected:

  1. Nostrils and wings too wide.
  2. Asymmetrical wings.We all naturally have asymmetry.This is fine.But in some cases the dissonance cannot be hidden.Therefore, wings of the nose that have notable differences in size or position (higher or lower) can be entrusted to a plastic surgeon.
  3. Fleshy and thick nostrils.The cause could be thickened skin or excess cartilage tissue.
  4. Unsightly shape.

The listed defects in the wings of the nose cannot be corrected with filler injections!

How complicated is this operation?

If we compare the correction of the wings with plastic surgery of all parts of the external nose, obviously for the surgeon the first case is easier to perform.

“Simplicity” does not mean at all that it can be done without too much effort and/or without sufficient experience.On the contrary, reducing the wings of the nose and forming a new configuration requires a careful approach and planning of its actions by a specialist.

I repeat: the wings are a small area, to work it requires millimeter precision.

What anesthesia is used?

The topic of anesthesia during plastic surgery is of great concern to patients.I would divide the public into two camps: those who are against general anesthesia and try to avoid it by any means, and those who strive to survive the operation in a state of oblivion and are happy to fall into a medicated sleep.

Be careful!

  • if we perform an operation in combination with a complex rhinoplasty, general anesthesia will be required;
  • If we are correcting only the cartilage, then we can use intravenous sedation with local anesthesia.

Preparation for surgery

The amount of preoperative preparation depends on the type of procedure.For rhinoplasty under general anesthesia, we will need extensive research.

Test to take

  • Clinical blood test;
  • Biochemical blood test (total protein, urea, creatinine, bilirubin (total), ALT, AST, glucose, potassium, sodium);
  • Coagulogram (INR, prothrombin, bleeding time, clotting time);
  • Blood test for RW (syphilis), HIV;
  • Hbc;
  • Antigen+anti HCV (hepatitis B, C);
  • Blood type, Rh factor;
  • General urine test;
  • ECG (electrocardiogram) with interpretation;
  • Computed tomography of the nose.

For isolated nostril surgery, you will need to undergo slightly fewer tests.

The day of the surgery

The patient comes to the clinic on an empty stomach (in case of complex rhinoplasty) or after a light day (nose removal under intravenous sedation).

After the standard organizational measures for signing the contract, payment, etc., consultations with specialists follow.It is mandatory to take the medical history from the anesthetist and, of course, another meeting with the operating surgeon.

After surgery for complex nose correction under general anesthesia, the patient is admitted to the recovery room, where his condition is carefully monitored.

After the wings are sutured, the patient goes home a few hours later.

How is the rehabilitation going?

Rehabilitation after rhinoseptoplasty and nostril surgery are significantly different.

If only the wings were corrected, you would be lucky not to need complex structures on the face (e.g. a splint).The doctor seals the area to be corrected with special strips.This has virtually no effect on quality of life and well-being.

Once you return home, you can return to your normal lifestyle with minimal changes.

Sutures after wing surgery

When reducing the nostrils, the seams are on the outside.After 6-7 days, the doctor removes the threads.For some time you will notice the traces of the intervention.But after a few months you will forget about it, provided that proper care is taken.

Rules for the treatment of scars:

  • After removing the stitches, if necessary, apply a bandage/plaster to the wound, which can be removed after a day and then, as a rule, it is not necessary to cover the wound with a bandage or plaster.
  • On the day of suture removal, do not wet the wound to ensure that any holes are closed.
  • The healing wound remains sensitive for several more weeks: protect the wound area from external damage and avoid rubbing it with tight clothing.If you wish, you can keep the wound covered with a bandage/plaster.

Rhinoplasty, price

The cost of rhinoplasty will depend on the nature of the cosmetic defect that needs to be corrected, the complexity and volume of the upcoming procedure.For your information, we present in the table the estimated cost for different types of surgical interventions.You will only be able to know the final cost of the service after a direct consultation.
